How to Print Canva Invitations at Home Without Cropping or Resizing
Keep the size you chose, protect the pretty details, and print one good test before the whole stack.

You have finished personalizing your invitation. The name is right, the date is checked, and the design looks lovely on screen. Then the printer makes it too small—or cuts off part of the border.
The problem is often a setting between the downloaded file and the printer. This guide walks through printing a 5 × 7-inch Canva invitation at its intended size, with room to trim the paper around it.
Use the correct print-size template, download a PDF Print file, and print at Actual Size / 100% on paper large enough for the entire exported page. Print one copy, measure it, then continue.
Printer menus vary. A computer and a PDF reader with explicit scaling controls make these checks easier.
Open the printable invitation template
Use the template link labeled for printing in your purchase instructions. A 5 × 7-inch invitation and a tall mobile invitation have different proportions. Printing a screenshot or a phone-sized design on 5 × 7 paper can introduce cropping, stretching or unwanted white space.

When a product includes several formats, choose the print version before editing. You do not need to resize a correctly sized template just because you are loading a larger sheet into the printer.

- A printer that supports your chosen paper size and weight.
- Compatible paper, plus plain paper for a size test.
- A ruler and paper trimmer if printing on a larger sheet.
Proofread before you download
Check the spelling, date, time, address and RSVP details. Look for any placeholder wording left behind. After changing a name or adding an address, make sure the text still fits comfortably inside the design.
Keep important wording away from the finished edge. Canva’s margin guides can help you spot text that sits too close to the trim. Your decorative background and your editable text do not need to end at the same place.

Download your invitation as PDF Print
- In Canva, open Share → Download.
- Choose PDF Print as the file type.
- Select the invitation page you want to print.
- Choose whether you need crop marks and bleed using the guidance below.
- Download the file and open the saved PDF.
Use the downloaded file rather than printing the Canva editing screen. If your PDF reader shows page dimensions, check them: a 5 × 7-inch design exported without marks or bleed should retain those dimensions. A file with marks and bleed has a larger outer page; its finished trim size is still 5 × 7 inches.
Should I turn on crop marks and bleed?
Crop marks identify the cut lines. Bleed is extra background beyond the finished edge, allowing for a little movement when trimming. In Canva, the combined option is available with PDF Print.

Turning on bleed does not make a printer capable of printing to the edge of a sheet. If a fixed background does not extend into the bleed area, do not stretch the whole invitation to compensate. Check with the template seller or print provider.
Print at Actual Size / 100%
For a first attempt, place one invitation on a larger sheet. A Letter sheet measures 8.5 × 11 inches; A4 measures 210 × 297 mm. Both give a single 5 × 7 invitation room around it for trimming.
- Open the PDF in a reader with print-scaling controls.
- Select your printer and set the paper size to the sheet actually loaded: Letter or A4, for example.
- Select Actual Size or set the scale to 100%.
- Use a single-page layout. Turn off settings such as Fit, Fill or automatic enlargement.
- Choose the paper type that matches your stock in the printer settings.
- Check the preview: all four corners and any crop marks should fit within the printable area.
- Print one copy.
The invitation stays 5 × 7 inches. The printer paper setting describes the larger sheet you are feeding into the printer.
If a printer option automatically selects the paper tray from the PDF page size, make sure it has not switched you back to 5 × 7 paper. Check both the PDF print dialog and the printer’s own settings for scaling.
If the preview shows clipping at 100%, choose a larger supported sheet or a suitable printing service. Shrinking the file to fit would change the finished size.
Test the stock before buying a large pack
A smooth matte cardstock can suit illustrated invitations, but the right weight depends on your printer and its feed path. Check your model’s supported paper specifications before buying heavy card. A stock suitable for a print shop may be too thick for a home printer.
For an inkjet printer, choose inkjet-compatible paper. Select the matching media setting, load the printable side correctly and allow the ink to dry before stacking or trimming.
Test color on the paper you plan to use. Cream backgrounds, soft florals and dark lettering can look different on different stocks. A screen is illuminated; paper is not, so an exact screen-to-print color match is not something to expect from every home setup.
Check the finished card with a ruler
Use a plain-paper copy to confirm size first, followed by a copy on your chosen stock to check color and detail. Measure the intended cut lines: a 5 × 7 invitation should finish at 5 inches wide and 7 inches tall, approximately 12.7 × 17.8 cm.
If you exported crop marks, measure between the corresponding trim lines—not the outside edge of the PDF or the end of each mark. Trim on those lines, removing the marks and extra bleed. A paper trimmer helps keep the edges straight.
For the circus invitation, inspect the blue diamond border as well as the wording. If one side is missing, check the scaling and printable-area settings before printing more copies.

A few questions before you print
Can I print two 5 × 7 invitations on one sheet?
Two can fit geometrically on Letter or A4 when arranged carefully, but printer margins, bleed and crop marks reduce the space available. A generic “two pages per sheet” option may shrink them. Use a correctly prepared print layout and measure a test copy. One invitation per sheet is the simpler starting point.
Can I print straight from my phone?
You may be able to, depending on your printer and app. If you cannot see paper-size and scaling controls, use a computer for the first test so you can confirm the finished dimensions.
Do I have to resize my invitation to Letter or A4?
No. Keep the original invitation size. Select Letter or A4 as the loaded paper size in the print settings, then print the invitation at 100%.
Will this work for baby shower and wedding invitations?
The same size-checking process applies to printable designs for different celebrations. Follow the format and dimensions supplied with your particular template.
When should I use a print shop?
A print shop may be easier for thick cardstock, large quantities, precise double-sided alignment or a printer that cannot handle your chosen stock. Tell the provider the finished size and ask about bleed, marks and color settings before exporting.
Is an invitation website a printable card?
No. A website invitation is intended to be published and shared online. Choose a printable invitation template when you want a paper card; check the listing to see which formats are included.
